Artist Statement

I’m a visual artist and storyteller. Using different mediums I draw diverse characters and entire civilizations. Whether in the form of a comic book, a painting, or a digital illustration, my creations exist for everyone who wants to learn, to fight, and to love. My art can become inked brush strokes, graphite lines, paint spots, pixels, or pressed ink. I also create performances where I can embody my characters, which allows me to learn more about them and myself.  I become one with my artwork. My characters and myself become inspired by social, political and environmental issues. We experiment and discover, we make mistakes but we learn from them.
I use the infinite realm of imagination as my studio and my home. Often, I rely on my daydreams and dreams of the night to inspire the designs of my characters and their worlds. I evoke profound memories of solitude, disgrace, accomplishments and self-realizations to create the subjects of my diverse stories. Every time I start working on a project, it becomes an adventure. Deciding what materials to use to create my art is like choosing what tools to bring on my journey. It’s in this adventure that I get to learn about myself and the world around me, making me able to create change, bring hope and to love.
Together with my characters, I create narratives that speak about the struggles of the community I belong to -a community with people of color, people of diverse gender identities, sexual orientations and culture.  In my artwork, I use the history, colored patterns and love towards Earth I’ve inherited from my Inca ancestors, giving them a new chance to live within my art. I also feed on the ideas of queer role models who were not afraid to show their true identity to the world. My art and I exist to fight for the rights we deserve, to stop discrimination based on race, class and difference of beliefs, and to love without restrictions.
